Obstacles — everyone has them.

We all have ideas, dreams or thoughts and before we take action or while we are taking action, we sometimes hit a wall or mental block that stops us from moving forward.

Maybe you want to start your fitness journey, or find a life partner, maybe advance in your career, or start a business, maybe you want to move into your own place — Whatever your dream is we will face obstacles along the way.

So how do we overcome obstacles?

Firstly — It starts with our thoughts and perceptions

Our thoughts lead to our feelings and our feelings drive our decisions on whether we take action or not.

Another way to address the feeling that a bad situation will never end is by thinking about similar situations that you went through in the past and that you’ve successfully overcome. You can find a precedent nearly every time — if you think hard enough.

When you do this, it acts as a reminder of your ability to handle challenges and get passed them. It boosts your sense of self-confidence and it eliminates the sense of helplessness. This attitude shift is most likely to motivate you to take action and get you to successfully rise above the situation.

Tony Robbins has a great methodology when it comes to facing obstacles. In his series called “Breakthrough with Tony Robbins” he demonstrates that when you tackle your biggest obstacle and fear you use this as your benchmark for any obstacle you face going forward and you will remember the day you accomplished this obstacle and fear — giving you the strength to push through. This approach will shift your entire perspective that you are faced with and if you build up enough courage to try you can overcome it.

Secondly — Never give up and just keep trying

There is one thing that is stopping you from moving forward in the direction you want to go and that’s your will to try.

You will always be scared when trying something new, but building the courage and just going for it anyway is the recipe to allow you to just try.

In our lifetime it’s important to “taste” as many different things as possible, and I don’t mean taste food — I mean trying as many different things that you find interesting and passionate about — even if it scares the hell out of you. This doesn’t always mean tie it to earning money but just allowing you to find happiness and be joyful in things you try — win or fail.

In order to reach that next level, you have to try often and fail fast. When you fail after giving it your all — this can be the biggest lesson you can learn — building your strength one fail at a time. I once read that FAIL stands for First Attempt In Learning — and well, I found this to be true for myself.

Failures are blessings in disguise. Too many people leave this earth with unfulfilled dreams. It’s time to go after that thing you want to do, no matter what it is, or no matter what people may think — just go do it and never stop trying.

Lastly — Shift your perspective

The sooner you shift your perspective the quicker you can turn your situation around. All it takes is for you to pivot your thinking and approach and you can overcome what you thought was an obstacle.

When you positively shift your perspective it not only helps you — but it affects everyone around you. Our perspective drives our performance, so how we view things tends to lead into how we do things and move forward.

Someone broke up with you, you lost your job, you got divorced, someone passed away and the list goes on — the sooner you can shift your perspective and way of thinking, even when it feels tough — the quicker it will allow you to get back to living a purposeful life and new opportunities to present themselves.

Late Kobe Bryant puts it nicely,

“Everything negative — pressure, challenges — is all an opportunity for me to rise.”

So no matter the challenge or obstacle you might be facing or will face — It will be your turn to RISE, shift your PERSPECTIVE and NEVER GIVE UP.
